How do I change the screen resolution within XP, when the screen being used can't handle the refresh rate?

The system was built using a 17'; monitor 1024x768 @ 75Hz, but the user has a 14'; screen which I think can only handle 800x600 @ 72Hz max! How do I change the resolution using the 14'; screen or is it impossible to do?How do I change the screen resolution within XP, when the screen being used can't handle the refresh rate?
Boot into safe mode where it will use a lower screen resolution and set it to what you need then reboot back into normal. How do I change the screen resolution within XP, when the screen being used can't handle the refresh rate?
Right Click the desktop %26gt; Click properties %26gt; followed by settings. Here you can change your resolution.

Click the advanced button followed by the monitor tab to

change refresh rate. (some tabs in advanced section will be different depending on graphics card)
Mooncalf is correct. That's the only way to do it, without taking a monitor that can handle that resolution %26amp; refresh rate over there.
go to safe mode. the resolution safe mode usually usses is pretty low, so fix your problem from there
