How do you change screen resolution on computer?

I have windows xp and i have just formatted the computer because of a virus, now when i go to change the resolution it keeps saying it is 'out of range' it is currently set to 800 x 600.

Even the next setting would help, the screen is massive and it does my head in!

Please ask for any more details, thanks. How do you change screen resolution on computer?
You need to reinstall your video card drivers. Go to the start menu, right click on my computer and select properties. Then in the hardware tab click device manager. Look for all the hardware devices that have a yellow triangle with an exclamation inside. These all need their drivers reinstalled since the drivers were deleted when you reformatted. Search your computer manufacturer's site for the drivers. You may also have a disk containing the drivers that came with the PC.How do you change screen resolution on computer?
Go to control panel, select display, click on setting, adjust the setting. Restart your computer to make it work.
